  1. OVERVIEW OF OUR SPORT                                                                                                                                         

In view of the recent directives for Non-Contact Sports to resume activities, Tenpin Bowling SA, would like to submit the following.

This document outlines the safe return of our Bowlers to league bowling. Our main aim is to commence with our league activities in a safe environment.

Our sport is played across 6 regions, Johannesburg Central, Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, KwaZulu Natal, Midlands (Pietermaritzburg), Port Elizabeth and Cape Town Central. We participate in leagues and tournaments in indoor bowling facilities in these regions. Our members bowl weekly leagues on weeknight evenings in their closest centres.

These bowling alleys are privately owned, and are private businesses. The Federation hosts leagues and National Tournaments in these centres in the various Regions.

Our National Tournaments have been postponed for the months of July, August, September and October 2020. We have made provision for an Interprovincial Championship which has been scheduled for 14 to 22 November 2020, at Planet X Bowl, in Pietermaritzburg.

All the suggested protocols outlined in this application. will be put into place and monitored

Our leagues are played at the following centres:

NORTHCLIFF BOWL JOHANNESBURG

Monday evening, 6pm – 9pm

10 x 3-man team = 30 players maximum, playing across 12 lanes, (Weekly rotating teams 4th player)

Wednesday evening, 6-pm – 9pm

12 x 3-man team = 36 players maximum, playing across 12 lanes, (Weekly rotating teams 4th player)

Tuesday evening, 6.30pm – 9.30pm

8 x 3-man team = 24 players maximum, playing across 12 lanes

Thursday evening, 6.30pm – 9.30pm

The above photo shows an example of what the area is between lanes, as can be seen there is ample distance between lanes, to accommodate the social distancing procedure.

The Health Protocols that we will have put in place, is as follows:

On Entering the Facility:

  • A register to be completed on entry, recording players details, name, contact numbers, relevant questions on travel and contact with any infected persons. This document is in accordance with government gazette publications.
  • Temperature checks at the entrance.
  • Sanitizing protocols, at the entrance and throughout the facility.
  • Wearing of masks at all times.
  • Airconditioning units to be in operation prior to bowlers entering the venue for the commencement of the league. To ensure a good ventilation and free flow of air during league.

During League:

  • Social distancing protocols.
  • No “high-fives” at all.
  • Each bowler is to only wear their personal specific bowling shoes and socks.
  • Cleaning of one’s bowling equipment after each ball return.
  • Only one person on the approach, to deliver their ball.
  • Only one other person in the playing area at times.
  • The balance of the “Team”, standing or sitting at the rear of the playing area at all times.
  • Cleaning of hands regularly, sanitizers to be supplied in the bowling centre.

After League:

  • The recorded information to be retained for checking, tracing and contact.
  • Once league is completed all equipment will be wiped down and cleaned for storage.
  • Each bowler is to handle their own equipment at all times.
  • All league bowlers are to vacate the bowling facility immediately after league has finished.
  • Risk Mitigation Steps:

In the case of a team members testing positive for Covid -19 virus.

  1. Should the Federation or League Administrator be notified that a player tested positive for Covid-19 virus and had attended a league evening. All team members (his/her specific team members) will be contacted immediately and notified of the facts. It will be communicated that they themselves, should follow medical advice and adhere to all the health protocols of having themselves tested for Covid-19.
  • All league members present at the league at the same time, will be advised immediately by group “WhatsApp” message. Each league member will then have the option of following medical safe-guarding protocols.
  • A communication will immediately be sent to the Bowling venue, advising them of the positive case. The venue will be instructed to follow all deep-cleaning protocols and their own medical protocols for their staff to safe guard against any further contamination and spread of the virus.

The above protocols will be communicated to all our members as well as the Proprietors/Owners of the bowling facilities. The compliance officers will be requested to carry out and monitor all above protocols.

That should I come into contact with anyone diagnosed or suspect of having contracted COVID-19 (Coronavirus), I will immediately inform TBASA.

That I agree to abide by all rules and regulations in TBASA relating to minimising the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) as well as adhering to all government guidelines and regulation in relation to lock down, social distancing and hygiene.

We hereby make application to commence our leagues on Wednesday 15th July 2020.

This time line, will enable the Venues, to install all sanitizing equipment, and conduct deep-cleaning and to put in place all other health and safety protocols.

The health and safety of our membership is paramount and we are committed to ensuring that this continues and TBASA will make sure all health checks are carried out.  We will carry out all protocols that we are required to do.
